UCAS

Registration

Before you begin: you will need your "buzzword" (if you're applying via a school or college), a pen, some paper, and your personal details to hand. If you have not got this information, go get it now...

Registration is fairly simple with UCAS, to start simply click Register and log in to open a new window with the start page. You'll be presented with a screen asking you to enter your details to login, or if this is your first time, to register. Click 'Register' for now.

After reading through the text on the welcome page, click 'next'.

You'll then need to read over the terms and conditions, tick the box to show your acceptance of them, and then click 'next' to continue registration.

The next page you'll see is the intial details screen, which requires you to enter your title (Mr, Miss, Mrs, Ms, Dr, and so on), your gender (male or female), your first name(s) and surname, and your date of birth. Once again, you'll be clicking 'next' to move on.

The next screen asks you if you have had any previous contact with the UCAS systems. This section is optional, however it is advisable to fill it in if it applies to you. It only applies if you have a UCAS Card or if you applied last year (and can remember your ID number), if it does then you should select the correct option and click 'next'. If you fall under both categories, choose the top option. If it doesn't apply to you, select the bottom option and click 'next'.

If you chosen either of the top two options in the previous screen, you will be asked for your ID or Card number, so enter it here. Click 'next' to continue.

UCAS now needs to know if your postal address is in the UK, the EU or Overseas, or if it is a British Forces Post Office address. The address you choose will be the one that your offers and communications get sent to - so choose the one where you spend the majority of your time (this may include a boarding school or hall of residence).

If you've chosen the UK option, the system will find your address with the postcode and door number, enter them and click 'next' to have them entered, if they are incorrect simply change them; once they are correct, click 'next' to continue. If you've chosen either of the other two options you'll be asked to complete your full address right away, so enter it. If you've selected a BFPO address, you'll need your BFPO number as well. Click 'next' to continue.

This section is optional, however it's extremely advisable to fill it in as it gives you much quicker communications. Firstly, enter your home (landline) phone number, then your mobile number, and finally your email address twice. The first two boxes should be ticked if you want UCAS to contact you by text message and/or email. The last box should remain unticked if you want UCAS to contact you by post. Click 'next' when you've ticked the boxes carefully.

The next screen is the one that you must make a note of your choices. It's the password and security screen. Firstly, you'll need to choose a password that is between 6 and 14 characters and contains at least one number and one letter. Enter it again to confirm. Then choose four different security questions and answer them. Click 'next' to complete the process.

You're done! Make a note of the username you're given which will look like {initals}{surname}{num}, where {num} is sequentially chosen by the UCAS system. Click 'log in now' to get on with things!

Choose which of the four options applies to you. Note that for the first three, you'll need the "buzzword" to proceed. Click 'next' when you've chosen. If you choose one of the top three, enter your buzzword now, and click 'next' to carry on.

The next page is a check to see if you live in the UK. If you don't it will ask you if you're at school or college - if you are, please check with your school or college before pressing anything else! Click 'next' will take you to the next page.

You're now fully logged in and registered with the UCAS Apply 09 system. Please make a note of the number at the top of the screen that looks like 123-456-7890 as it is your personal ID number for this application cycle.
