Before the new year we aim to have added a further 40 or so questions to the bank, taking the total to well over 125!

Thank-you for your patience today whilst we performed some vital upgrades to our forum. We're pleased to announce that it should now be possible for you to 'log in automatically each visit', and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. We've also re-arranged the UCAS forums, and split them under the headings of 'Apply' and 'Track'. Once again, we apologise for any disruption this downtime has caused!

Just to inform you, the forum will be offline for approximately 1 hour between 2pm and 4pm on Friday, 24th October 2008. This is so that we can fix the issue you reported to us, saying that the forum doesn't remember your login when you tick the box. We're also using this opportunity to make a couple of other small upgrades!

Medical Admissions - Getting you in...

Our aim is to widen access to medicine and by doing this we hope to increase the number of successful applications of students from a wide range of backgrounds, thus encouraging a breed of doctors who have a greater understanding of the diverse culture in which we now live. We are not alone in this aim. The GMC have stated in their document 'tomorrows doctors' that they "envisage a medical workforce that is truly representative of the community it serves". Securing a place at medical school is a tough challenge for most applicants. In 2007 there were approximately 3 applicants for every place. Many other keen and potentially suitable applicants were put off applying after being advised by their teachers/ family, "expert" friends etc that they would stand little chance of success. Sometimes it is a natural fear of failure that holds someone back from applying. This website is about helping you, the potential doctor, increase your awareness of whether medicine is the right career choice for you. It is about levelling the playing field by taking some of the myths out of what it takes to make a successful application. It is about helping you throughout the interview process.
