Contrary to popular belief the best man doesn't always win. When it comes to securing your place at medical school you have to tick all the boxes and more.
We were once in your position. We remember the fear of the unknown, the addiction to UCAS. Fighting for our rightful places at medical school. Since then we have spent time researching the statistics of medical admissions. Our lead author sits on interview panels for two UK medical schools and has reviewed hundreds of personal statements. Now we can help you get your place at medical school.
Our aim is to widen access to medicine and by doing this we hope to increase the number of successful applications of students from a wide range of backgrounds, thus encouraging a breed of doctors who have a greater understanding of the diverse culture in which we now live. We are not alone in this aim. The GMC, General Medical Council have stated in their document 'tomorrows doctors' that they "envisage a medical workforce that is truly representative of the community it serves".
Can you help us
Many of you will have by now had interviews and received offers. MedicalAdmissions.co.uk needs your help. Please sign up to our blog to tell other applicants about your experiences. We plan to fully launch our service for the next round of applications. Please email us to let us know what so far you like and what else we should add. If you are going to medical school in 2009 perhaps you might like to become a contributing author (you still need to improve your CV as in one year's time being head girl will no-longer be relevant). Next years potential applicants would love to hear about what first year of medical school is like!
Could you please also e-mail us the questions that you got at your medical school interviews? We can then discuss them with our experts and publish them on the website with a discussion and example answer. You might like to suggest an example answer yourself. We will certainly accredit you on the website.
As a team we offer free presentations to state run schools. During our presentations we will discuss life as a medical student and as a doctor. We explain the medical admissions process in detail covering how to write your UCAS form and interview skills. For more information on this exciting opportunity, contact our Schools Liaison Team.
